An Evening with Rufus Wainwright

Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at 7:30 p.m.

Pantages Theater

Tickets: $66 and $86
The son of folk singers Loudon Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigle, Rufus Wainwright is affectionately referred to by Elton John as "the greatest songwriter on the planet" and praised by the New York Times for his "genuine originality." As a Grammy nominee, he is one of the great male vocalists and songwriters of his generation. His singular sound is carved from the worlds of rock, opera, theater, dance and film.

Opening Act: Lucy Wainwright Roche
She has been compared to Joni Mitchell and Patty Griffin by NPR - Wainwright Roche was born in NYC into an influential musical family. She rebelled against the family business by teaching elementary school for several years before getting involved in music. Since 2007, Lucy has released two EPs and a studio album entitled Lucy (2010), toured the U.S., Canada and Europe, and has performed with a number of musicians including the Indigo Girls, Neko Case, and Over the Rhine. Lucy is known for her crystal clear voice and straightforward, funny stage presence.

“Wainwright's music throws lines in the air with a grace and confidence rarely heard in contemporary music.”

— NPR Music, First Listen

“…he’s a genre unto himself.”

— The Independent
