The world-famous Brentano String Quartet explores and expands the very boundaries of standard quartet repertoire, weaving a tapestry of symphonic bliss that only true masters can manage. Utilizing a strong interest in both antiquated and contemporary compositions, this group musters the magic of classical music and leaves audience members spellbound. Since its inception in 1992, the Brentano String Quartet has appeared throughout the world to critical acclaim, from Carnegie Hall to the Sydney Opera House and many venues in between. The quartet has won numerous awards including the first Cleveland Quartet Award, the Naumburg Chamber Music Award and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center invited them to be the inaugural members of Chamber Music Society Two.
The Quartet is named for Antonie Brentano, whom many scholars consider to be Beethoven’s “Immortal Beloved”, the intended recipient of his famous love confession.
