The Grace Marie Crumpton Scholarship
Jan. 25, 1986 – Sept. 19, 2008
Grace was born in Tacoma to Wayne and Marlene Crumpton and graduated in 2006 from Tacoma School of Arts where she then went on to hone her artistic craft at New York University. I first met Grace years ago when she and her sisters enrolled in what was then TAG STAR Camp. I was immediately impressed by her stage presence, voice and commitment to her craft. I remember thinking how lucky I was to have her in my group, not only was Grace a talented performer but she also was the cog in the wheel of our young performers.
On September 19th after a mighty battle with brain cancer Grace passed away peacefully at home. Her generosity of spirit, commitment to service and sense of humor was an example to us all.

This full scholarship, created in Grace’s honor, will recognize one student each year who exemplifies a commitment to service on behalf of family, community and others. We are looking for summer theater camp participants with a strong sense of responsibility who are inspired toward service. We realize that for some students, service may include involvement in public service projects, volunteerism, and/or efforts to help a local, regional, national or even international community. Other students may be directing their efforts toward helping meet their own families’ needs, such as contributing to the family income, providing regular childcare to younger siblings, cooking meals, etc. Service comes in many different forms and formats. The core value of the scholarship is an applicants deep impulse and practice toward service. We are also, of course looking for students with a passion for theater and for the theater arts.
Criteria
Applicants for the scholarship will need to respond to the essay questions and attach two letters of recommendations from adults who have seen your commitment to service in action. All applications including contact information, essay answers and letter recommendations should be sent to
