Lynn Harrell, widely regarded as one of the top two cellists in the world, will perform at the Pantages Theater in Tacoma on April 10 at 7:30 p.m. in a recital performance with pianist Victor Santiago-Asuncion. Mr. Harrell replaces violinist Midori, who is unable to appear due to an unavoidable scheduling conflict.
Lynn Harrell is one of classical music’s most celebrated artists. He has performed for 50,000 fans in New York’s Central Park in a concert with the New York Philharmonic. A multi-Grammy Award winner, he joined his friends Itzhak Perlman and Pinchas Zukerman in a live performance at the Grammy Awards. In 1994, he appeared at the Vatican’s first official commemoration of the Holocaust, performing for Pope John Paul II with the Royal Philharmonic. During his celebrated career he has performed with every major orchestra in the world, including numerous appearances with the National Symphony Orchestra, and he has released more than 30 recordings.
Mr. Harrell is the recipient of numerous awards, including the first-ever Avery Fisher Award. Mr. Harrell plays a 1720 Montagnana cello – which was once famously forgotten in a New York City taxicab.
