A
little bit of history...
The
Tacoma Concert Band (TCB) was founded in 1981 by Robert
Musser, its current Conductor and Music Director. Bob
contacted what he considered the best wind and percussion
musicians in the area, and not one person turned him
down. The band began playing at Stadium High School,
with a few concerts at other schools such as Federal
Way, Puyallup, Clover Park and South Kitsap . It moved
to the Pantages with its first Sousa concert in April,
1986, and it has been there ever since.
Along
the way, the TCB became only the second band in America
to receive the prestigious Sudler Scroll of the John
Philip Sousa Foundation, an international award given
to the finest community concert bands here and abroad.
Among the band's highlights are playing at EXPO in Vancouver
B.C., as well as for the 100th anniversary of Fort Worden
and the 100th anniversary of Pt. Defiance Park .
And this summer the TCB was honored to perform at the
prestigious Anches D/Azur festival in La Croix Valmer,
France.
And
Today...
Celebrating
its 27th season, the 60-member Tacoma Concert Band continues
to delight audiences of all ages and musical tastes
with an exciting blend of popular and classical music.
Drawing its members from among the finest wind and percussion
musicians in the Puget Sound region, the band performs
a varied repertoire of traditional and modern works.
